Yesterday, a man named Wallace Edwards stopped by to give my parents a picture of our house from 1942. Mr. Edwards lived at the house next door then. Sixty-seven years later, our house looks pretty much the same. The yard and neighborhood, fortunately, look much better these days. Probably to some of my New York readers’ disbelief, we have paved roads now. There is no longer an enormous ditch in front of our house. We also have lots of neighbors and are surrounded by other neighborhoods full of more neighbors. All of this is to say, we don’t live in the sticks. This area looked rather countrified in the 40’s.
